It’s clear now: Covid19 is driving us into another economic recession – where small businesses will struggle for cash flow and some won’t survive.

But rather than working on bail-outs and sticking plasters to try to fix the present, extractive, capitalist economy – which is so clearly the problem – why don’t we come together to seed and build a new economy that changes the game once and for all?

We have an open source solution – which anyone can use to create a mutual network in their location – and a roadmap which we are actively working on. But we need more hands on deck to bring it to fruition faster – so we can build an international federation of mutual credit networks.

Working on a volunteer basis, with zero funding, in a small team of three people (with invaluable pro-bono help from a coding team), we’ve made some great strides towards the mission. Since August 2018 we have:

Now, the OCN team is looking to expand the co-op and to bring on board more members of the Development Crew to help grow the project.

The roles below are volunteer, collaborator positions, with full voting rights (one member one vote) in the co-op, after a successful probationary period.

We are ideally looking for UK-based people, who are able to commit to at least one day’s work per week as a minimum – but are interested to hear from anyone who might be able to help. Full training will be provided – a proactive working style is more important than any qualifications. A basic understanding of mutual credit would be an advantage.

Seeking collaborators – Tech:

Front end developer

As per our Roadmap we have now almost finished work on the API – which means we can start to develop new, platform and language-agnostic front ends to enable people to access the directory and trade in new ways…

We are imagining it would be simplest to build an initial front end in REACT – but are keen to hear from anyone who would like to help build a front end in any programming language / for any platform.

Go developer

As per our Roadmap we have now almost finished work on the API – but there is still a long way to go to move towards our vision of a fully federated global network of mutual credit networks, which we refer to as the credit commons.

We are therefore seeking additional Go developers to work in parallel with our lead developer to help build out the back end infrastructure and to develop Phase 2 – Interconnected MCCS Nodes.
